Behavioural Support

behavioural therapy

Everyone has behaviours of concern and at times we all “lose our cool”. For some individuals these behaviours of concern can begin to significantly impact daily life or the ability to access the community. As Behaviour Support Practitioners, we want to help everyone understand why these behaviours are occurring and how we can all work together, learn new skills, and as a team, better support the individual and other people in the environment.

At The Shine Centre, we offer two streams of Behaviour Support Services:

  • Improved Relationships Behaviour Support Services
  • General Behaviour Support Services

Improved Relationships Behaviour Support Services:

Behaviour Support services for participants with Improved Relationships NDIS funding.

Improved Relationships is a budget under Capacity Building in a NDIS Plan. The aim of Improved Relationships is to provide funds for specialised assessment and supports where an NDIS participant has complex or unclear behavioural needs. Participants will have this noted on their NDIS plan.

Our team of Behaviour Support Practitioners utilise the Positive Behaviour Support Capabilities Framework from the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. At The Shine Centre our Behaviour Support Practitioners work as a team to ensure that all compliance aspects of Improved Relationship’s funding is met. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Developing interim behaviour support plans
  • Developing and implementing comprehensive behaviour support plans
  • Administering functional behaviour assessments
  • Working directly with the participant and / or other key individual’s in the participant’s life
  • Working to eliminate or reduce restrictive practices
  • Ensuring other service providers are aware of the Behaviour Support Plan and how to implement it.

General Behaviour Support Services:

You do not have to have an NDIS plan to access our General Behaviour Support Services, however this service can be funded from Improved Daily Living under Capacity Building in a NDIS Plan, if the plan is self-managed or plan-managed.

These services are tailored to suit the individual’s needs.

Behaviour Support services may include:

  • Developing, writing and implementing a Behaviour Support Plan
  • Administering Functional Behaviour Assessments (Assessments that help determine the functions of behaviours of concerns so the most appropriate strategies can be developed and implemented)
  • Direct sessions with the individual
  • Develop resources that will assist with recommended proactive and reactive strategies.
  • Training sessions for parents and other key people in the individual’s life
  • School or community observations and trainings
